Happy birthday to me

So it was my birthday on Sunday. I hit the big 22. I must say this is the least excited I've ever been about the big day. My day was fun enough. I got to sleep in and that was a treat in itself. I planned on staying at home for the majority of the day and had invited a few friends to come over and hang out. I picked up some goodies at the store and when I got back my Grandma had arrived. She's so cute and thought my birthday was on the 31st which she says every year but I don't have the heart to correct her. She, my Mom, and I talked for a bit and she left around 2. As soon as she left my friend Ashley showed up with what else...cheesecake! She had 2 mini ones. One was chocolate and the other was cherry. We each had 1/2 of both kind. They were super tasty. I had to share some with my Mom and didn't really want to because it was so good but she's my Mom so what can you do? My friend Michelle came over too. She's always a blast to hang out with. I asked for money for my brithday because I was planning to go to New York with a friend in October. Everyone was very generous in their gift giving. When my little brother came over he, my Mom, and I went for some birthday desserts. Like I said it was a good day. Low stress and lots of fun.

The New York trip is going to be a bust. I was going to go for 4 days and it's just not going to be enough time plus I want to save up so I can visit a friend of mine in England next year. THAT should be lots of fun. :) So my birthday moolah will go towards a trip after all.

Movie review - Pirates of the Caribbean

So I gave in and decided to watch this movie. It was pretty good all things considered. But I went to a 9:55 p.m. showing which I do not recommend after a long days work. I was very tired and kept thinking to myself "Is it over yet?" Not exactly something you want to have running through your mind when at a movie. Anyways, it was good. Gotta love that Jack Sparrow. His mannerisms and humour are always a riot to watch. Like any good action movie there was always something awful happening. Once they overcome one obstacle there was another waiting in the wings. The plot was a little tricky to follow...maybe it was how tired I was. But there seemed to be a lot of backstabbing and people turning on eachother. Maybe next time I'll bring a pen and paper with me to keep track of it all. I also realized that Garret from the UK office was one of the pirates in the movie. He was in the first one as well and was the pirate with one real eye and one fake one that keeps popping out. I'd go see it if you haven't yet. 3.75 movie reels out of 5.

Ode to Abby

My cute little Yorkie Abby is the cutest dog you could ever hope to have. Here's a poem I have just written about her.

My dog Abby is a great dog.
When it comes to food she's a big hog.
She'll eat and eat until she's full.
Then at my leg I'll feel a pull.
I want some more she's trying to say.
Don't throw the rest of your dinner away.

My dog Abby is a great dog.
She sleeps at the end of my bed like a log.
When she sleeps she has a smile on her face.
She couldn't be in a happier place.
But when she wakes another smile I see.
Abby is trying to get more food from me.

My dog Abby is a great dog.
When life is confusing and I feel like I'm in a fog.
My Abby is there to guide me through.
I couldn't ask for a better friend than you.
She can always tell when I'm sad.
At my dog Abby I can never stay mad.

My dog Abby is a great dog.
She chases away squirrels and groundhogs.
She's always ready to fight or play.
She lets me win any time of day.
I love my Abby the most I can love.
She's surely been sent to me from above.

My favourite office quotes - the alliance

All of these quotes are from "the alliance". (Season 1 - Episode 4)

"I think the main difference between me and Donald Trump is that I get no pleasure in saying "You're fired"...I think if I had a catch phrase it would be "You're hired and you can work here as long as you'd like" but that's unrealistic so..." -Michael Scott
"Studies have shown that more information gets passed through water cooler gossip than official memos. Which puts me at disadvantage because I bring my own water to work." -Dwight
"What's the scuttlebutt?" -Dwight
"I think green is kind of whorish." -Angela
"This was tough. I suggested we flip a coin but Anglea said she doesn't like to gamble. Of course by saying that she was gambling that I wouldn't smack her." -Pam
"Did you get your tickets...to the gun show?" -Dwight
"Meredith I heard you're turning 46 but come on, you're an accountant. Just fudge the numbers." -Jim
"I'm a dear hunter. I go all the time with my dad. One thing about deer, they have very good vision. One thing about me, I am better at hiding than they are at vision." -Dwight
"Can I trust Jim? I don't know. Do I have a choice? No, frankly I don't. Will I trust Jim? Yes. Should I trust Jim? You tell me." -Dwight
"Money isn't the key to happyness Jim. Do you know what is? Joy." -Michael
"Meredith, good news. You're not really a year older because you work here where time stands still." -Stanley
"Meredith, let's hope the only downsizing that happens to you is that someone downsizes your age." -Michael

If you haven't ever seen this show I suggest you watch it. It's pretty much the best show ever.

Things I bought at IKEA on Saturday

I went to IKEA Saturday afternoon with a friend of mine. We had a ton of fun testing out couches and beds not to mention looking at all the cool new things they have there. I didn't go too crazy and only bought two things that I didn't expect to buy. They were an extra $2. Here's the whole list.

1 carpet
1 mousepad
4 drawer organizers
1 wall clock
1 calculator
2 sets of medium white boxes
1 set of small white boxes
2 conatiners of stones
1 multi picture frame
1 package of rose picture cards

It was good fun. Now I just have to put it all away! That might take awhile.

Diet daze

Everyone seems to be on a diet these days. People at my credit union are either binging or purging and it always seems to be split right down the middle. Half are stuffing their faces and buying brownines and chips for everyone while the other half are eating hemp hearts and checking how many carbs food has before they eat it. I've managed to find a happy medium in all this chaos. It's called the "Eat whatever you want and don't feel guilty about it but you HAVE to stop eating once you are satisfied." So far it's been working very well for me. I don't know what happened exactly. One day a voice in my head suddenly said "You are full so stop eating!" and I listened to it. The trick is to stop eating after you are SATISFIED and before you are FULL. I started this diet weighing 176.4 pounds (YIKES, I know!) and this morning I weighed 168.8 a total loss of 7.6 pounds. I'm ok with that! This is the most sensible and low-maintenance diet I've ever been on. There's no points, weighing, measuring, recipies, just me and that little voice. I'm sure exercise would only speed up the process but I'm going to lay off of that for a bit because I've been so exhausted from work lately. I can already see a difference. My stomach is flat(ter), my bumb is the right size and I feel great! I'll keep you posted on my progress. Wish me luck!

Baker's dozen plus one movie reviews

WoBam! Are you in for a treat. Since I've been away for awhile I thought I would sum up the last few months of movies I've seen in one quick post. All of these movies are still playing somewhere. Here you be...

SUPERMAN RETURNS - I didn't think I'd like this movie because I loved the movies with Christopher Reeves but you couldn't ask for a hotter Superman. The plot was pretty realistic all things considered. Kevin Spacey makes an awesome bad guy! 4.5 movie reels out of 5
NACHO LIBRE - I loved this movie. I guess when you put jack Balck and the director of napoleon Dynamite together you get a funny movie. black plays Nacho, a cook in a monestary with a hidden passion for wrestling. Favourite quote "Get that corn outta my face!" Hilarious! 5 movie reels out of 5.

CLICK - This movie was pretty good. Adam Sandler is always hilarious when he flips out and he does that a lot in this movie. It's a wonderful life meets...well any Adam Sandler movie. Watch it if you want to have a good laugh. 4 movie reels out of 5.
THE LAKE HOUSE - Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock made a great leading couple in Speed and they were even better in this movie. Sepertated by 2 years they correspond and fall in love. But should they meet and will they meet? So good! Probably a chick flick but I'm sure you already knew that. :) 5 movie reels out of 5.
CARS - This was not a movie that I wanted to see. I got sucked into going to it with my aunt while I was on holidays. It was funny as far as animated films go and very cute. Kind of predictable but most of them are. A kids must see for sure! 3.5 movie reels out of 5.

THE BREAK UP - Loved this movie. I'm not a big fan of Jennifer Aniston but she hardly bothered me int his movie. It was hilarious to see all the little things we do to spite our partners. This one will be added to my movie collection for sure! 5 movie reels out of 5.
X-MEN THE LAST STAND - Not my favourite of the three X-men films. Evil mutants attacking humans while the humans try to "cure" all mutants. Good mutants trying to intervene. There were a lot of characters to follow in this filmand not all of them had closeure at the end of the movie. Leaves me thinking will there be a fourth? 3 movie reels out of 5.
THE DAVINCI CODE - Tom Hanks hasn't put out a bad movie (in my opinion) for a while. This movie did not break the tradition. I liked the DaVinci code and was not offended by it. It was a little hard to follow as there is a lot of history to it. Everyone who read the book first said the book was better. On it's own the movie was great. 4.5 movie reels out of 5.

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 3 - My expectations were high for this movie because I really liked the last two. Ethan Hunt is making the transition from super spy to average Joe. I didn't really like that aspect of the film. All of the sudden Ethan is settling down, about to get married, and meeting the girlfriend's friends. It reminded me too much of Tom Cruise and that was a turn off. Philip Seymour Hoffman was awesome as a bad guy. 4 movie reels out of 5.
THE BENCHWARMERS - I had to see this movie. I thought it would be great. It's about baseball (my favourite sport) plus it's got the guy from Napoleon Dynamite in it. (Can you tell I'm a fan?) It was not good. Nerds prevail of course. Go nerds! But any movie where Rob Schneider is the hot guy is not a good movie in my book. 2 movie reels out of 5.
THE SENTINEL - Michael Douglas and Keifer Sullivan face off in what appeared to be an episode of 24 stretched out into a 2 hour movie. Not very exciting. Eva longoria added nothing but clevage to the film. 2 movie reels out of 5.
LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN - This was a great script turned into an even better movie. Two crime bosses trying to kill eachother and innocent Josh Hartnett is caught in the middle. This is going into the movie collection for sure. I'll be watching it again asap. 5 movie reels out of 5.
INSIDE MAN - Holy Denzel! This movie was fantastic! Loved it loved it loved it! In this movie everyone's got a secret that's just about to surface and it's pieced together very well. This one will also be added to my movie collection for sure. 5 movie reels out of 5.
SCARY MOVIE 4 - Awful, awful movie! This one didn't even have a plot that made sense. They just strung a bunch of crappy horror movies together and tried (very poorly) to make it work. The only funny part of the movie was when Cindy was talking to a little boy in Japanese. I'll spare you the rest of the horrible details. .5 movie reels out of 5.

Hope these reviews give you some sort of insight into how my weekends are. lol Happy movie watching!

I'm baaaaaack

Hello all,

I've been away for almost a year and in that time away (I'm sorry to report) didn't do a whole hell of a lot. I am still working for the same company doing the same job. Still no boyfriend in sight and I have a whole years worth of movie reviews under my belt. So, if you were to ask me what was new I would not have a lot to tell you. I do have a bird now. I don't know if it's a boy or girl so I named it Jerry partly because I love Jerry Seinfeld and partly because I like Ben and Jerry ice cream. Since this time one year ago I have maintained my weight. Not to say I have weighed the same all year (+25-15+10-20 but who's keeping track?) now it's idling around the same number as last year. I have a new keyboard and renewed my driver's licence. The last picture on my DL was good. I was thinner, tanned, had long hair, and a big smile. In this new picture I am literally shrugging. I saw the guy taking my picture look at it, cringe, and then tell me when I should expect to receive my licence in the mail. What else is new? I have a new best friend. Her name is Michelle. We decided to be best friends because out of all the people we hate (everyone) we hate eachother the least. I love to sing (off key) to every song on the radio and Michelle knows all the words to the chorus. Maybe we'll go on a wold tour together someday but don't hold your breath. Michelle is single too so we have lots of time to hang out together. I do work at a new branch at my credit union now and it's a Tuesday to Friday 8:30-7:00 shift which tires the hell out of me but I get a long weekend every weekend so I'm not complaining. I'm doing very well at work right now. I am in the top 10% of my peers and cover for the supervisor when she is on holidays or sick. I have applied for a promotion so keep your fingers crossed. It would be a little farther from home than my branch right now but I can take the skytrain so it will be so much more relaxing...no traffic! I really hope I get it. Now, regarding my love life. Like I said earlier I don't have a boyfriend but one of my New Year's resolutions was to "actively pursue love" so that's what I've been doing. I went on two dates last year. The first was with a guy (let's call him #1) and although I was not attracted to him in that way I would liked to have been friends with him. He is a fan of Samuel L. Jackson I am not...I never heard from him again. The second guy last year (#2) was really nice, funny, and interesting. He brought me flowers. We laughed, talked for hours, and had a great time. I called him and he said he meant to call me...I never heard from him again. Then at the beginning of this year I thought my luck had changed. I talked to a guy (suprise suprise let's call him #3) for hours on the phone. We spoke daily and even set up a time to meet for our first date. He cancelled the date, said he met someone else at work but still wanted to be friends and...drumroll please...I never heard from him again. By the way this doesn't depress me and doesn't make me imberassed to share. I think it's hilarious! :) So this last guy (#4) and I talk for hours multiple times daily. At first he tells me about what a nice guy he is, that he doesn't care about looks, and that he's very mature. In order to go out on a date with him I had to drive to where he lives (about an hour away from me), pay for both of our lunches, and both of our movie tickets. It turns out #4 is a lot quiter in person although he said that's when he comes out of his shell so I also had to do 2 people's worth of talking. There was an hour gap betweeen the end of our lunch and the beginning of the movie so we went for a walk at which point I found out that he's a smoker. Why didn't I find this out sooner? Because I didn't ask him. How lame. At one point during our walk he threatened to spank me. I told him he was not going to do any such thing so he slapped it. I was not impressed. After the date...HE called. He said he had a great time and wanted to be "more than friends". Lucky me! I said no. He still calls. I think this sums up my last year pretty well. Not too exciting but always entertaining. Hope yours was great too. :)
